Absolutely BRILLIANT! A real page turner with twists I certainly didn't expect. Highly recommended to everyone, not just thriller/mystery fans. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.I had the pleasure of working with Scott Mariani when I worked in publishing so always wanted the opportunity to read one of his books...I wasn't disappointed!I also watched a recent documentary on the Catars period of history so I was interested to see how this fiction piece of thriller writing would weave oni to historical events.The story centres on Ben Hope, an ex soldier who now earns his trade tracking kidnapped children and returning them to safety. I am not sure why I picked this one out. The genre isnt unknown to me as I have read all of Dan Browns ( even before The Da Vinci Code hit the headlines), I am using the Steve Berry series as a 'turn to' when I feel in need of this kind of read and, fairly recently, I read the Sancti Trilogy by Simon Toyne.I thought that the author got close to my boundary for excess in processing too much detail particularly concerning the activities of Franco Bozza but just managed to stay the right side of

A highly clever book that starts off the journey of Ben Hope. After taking on an assignment, Ben travels to France to learn more about alchemy and how the secrets of the past, is always it for grabs for the wrong type of people. He also meets Dr Roberta Ryder to help but also to avoid danger. A great story, a lot of interesting history, definitely one to recommend.

Oh man. I knew from about page twenty that this was going to be painful. I stuck with it just to see how many cliches the author managed to write - I think by the end he got just about all of them, which is the real accomplishment of this book. Every plot twist was predictable, and the ending was the cliche to end all cliches. Honestly, this reads like an action movie. And I'm afraid that isn't a compliment.
