Judge Containing Books Kabale und Liebe
I feel my reviews are biased whenever I talk about something written by Schiller. I cant even understand why I like him so much even though Im always finding some contradictions in his plays. It could be his odd way of removing parts which would help the reader understand completely the situation (although it's understandable the way it is) to help the action evolve and progress faster. But anyway I liked Kabale und Liebe very much. The influences of Shakespeare and Lessing, which are

a classic book, must read for anyone speaking germanit's got drama, love, fight against social differences, and an (spoiler) un-happy endingI simply love the story, can't wait to see it at Staatstheater Nuremberg hope they will play it next season.

It's not a book. It's a play. And that should influence my rating. If I was in the audience of a theater in the late 1700s, I'd be delighted by this play! But alas - I am not and so I was not too excited. Actually I was a bit disappointed by the whole story.

I had to read it in school and actually liked it. At that time I also found out that Schiller had once done a translation for "Romeo and Juliet" which made me pretty sure that he stole at least half the content of the story from Shakespeare but I still liked his version. Probably mostly because I watched a modern interpretation of the play at the theatre back then and really enjoyed it.

Schiller's third drama, Intrigue and Love, is his most tightly plotted to that point, with only a small number of characters revolving around the doomed love affair of Ferdinand (son of a noble president) and Luise (daughter of a humble music teacher). The Romeo and Juliet plot is not original. The events are melodramatic to the extreme, with an extended ending that pushes the limits of the audience's suspension of disbelief. I actually enjoyed the play very much, but merely as light

I never expected to actually like this book. Especially not since I had to read it for my exam. But I enjoyed it. The beginning was really good, intruiging and I also like the style and the oh so different language.Sadly, the ending didn't really do it for me. *shrug* Act 4 was a bit too long and we all know what was about to happen. I dunno, I got a bit bored reading the last pages. Nonetheless, a really good book!
