Weigh Up About Books Edna in the Desert

A cute, short teen read about a modern teenager who disconnects from her digital life and finds fulfillment in simpler things while learning more about herself. Not deep by any means, but I liked it.

This book didn't spend nearly enough time talking about the author. It completely missed the boat discussing issues of free speech. I wanted more discussion of sock-puppets. I needed to be titillated by more sensual, eLectio non-vanity-publishing. I wanted a better explanation, in the text, of the wants and needs and desires of Christian publishing and SUBmission.It let me down. Made me feel like Zeke's insatiable/unsatiable whore: "Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because

I learned from Mary Miller that sometimes just being present for my teenagers is better than giving opinions. Perfect book for my daughters!

Edna In The Desert certainly was a hit. I was able to relate to the main character, not because I was like her, but because I have been graced with children like her in my life. That whole 'chip on the shoulder - smart aleck' attitude grows tiresome very quickly but there is always a reason behind it and it is usually not what you'd expect. Once the layers of Edna are peeled away and her heart is revealed, you see a glistening of hope there. She comes a long way in the book and I'd like to read

YA Not recommendedI have two issues with this book. One is an odd voicing that I've not come across before. The book is from 13 year old Edna's perspective, told in third person. However, stray thoughts from other characters pop up when you least expect them. Only little snippets, a couple of sentences long, they don't add up to enough to make this a multi-perspective novel.Since Edna thinks of the adults in her family by first name, as opposed to Mom or Dad, these perspective changes caught me

This is a touching, nuanced, and insightful coming-of-age story that takes you back to all the awkwardness of youth. The author really "gets" the teenage mind in all its highs and lows and drama, real or imagined! Set in the desert, the landscape and the broad range of characters living there through a summer of change, are brilliantly imagined. Readers of almost any age will find something or someone to root for in this story. I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as I did.

*I received this book for review from the author, but this in no way affected my thoughts expressed in this review*I did not like Edna at first. Not one bit. She was rude, she was selfish, she made me want to literally shake her so hard her brain rewired itself. There's a keyword there: was. She was rude, she was selfish. Was. Edna's also a teenager. Now, I know that's no excuse and if I gave that to my own mama after acting like Edna, that'd probably earn me a big ol slap upside the head. So,
