Narration As Books Secrets of the Demon (Kara Gillian #3)
Homicide detective Kara Gillian has a special talent: she can sense the "arcane" in our world, and there's quite a bit of it, even in Beaulac, Louisiana. She's also a summoner of demons, and works on a task force that deals with supernatural crimes. Her partners are attractive and smart FBI agents, but they're not summoners, and they're not telling Kara why they are on this special force with her.To complicate things even more, Kara has pledged herself to one of the most powerful of demons—Demon Lord Rhyzkahl—who helped save her partner's life, but now expects things in return. Meanwhile, she's trying to solve a string of murders that are somehow tied together by money, sex, rock music and...mud. But how can she concentrate on the case when she's not even sure who—or what—her partners are? Secrets of the Demon is the exciting third installment of the Kara Gillian series.

3.5 StarsI put off reading this book because I just wasnt very interested, but when I finally did pick it up, I devoured it in less than two days. It was fast paced, fun, and exciting - an enjoyable read. Some of the mysteries surrounding Zach and Ryan finally get cleared up, and even though I called the final bombshell long before it dropped, one of the revelations did manage to surprise me. As with the previous books, the answers you get only raise more questions, stringing you along justReview courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyWith each book I read in Diana Rowlands Kara Gillian Demon Summoner urban fantasy series, I am more and more amazed that it is not one of the BIG NAME series in the genre. Its got phenomenal world building, a tough yet venerable heroine, a captivating love triangle, and a increasingly compelling metanarrative that just gets juicier with each book.In the previous two books (see my reviews below) a number of delicious details were dropped about the
Diana Rowland has become one of my most favored authors to read. After reading three consecutive books in a row that kept me hooked throughout each one and all having endings that had me whispering to myself "Oh, sh*t! I need more!" while scrambling to find out about the next book, yeah I'd say this is a most favorite series, bar none.Secrets of the Demon was made into a page turner from the pace set by the mystery surrounding the case Kara is investigating surrounding several murders. The
I love this series! I was disappointed at first that the style of the cover art changed - I thought it was beautiful before - but it doesn't matter. This book was well worth the torturous year-long wait. I don't know if I can hold out for the next one, though! This book exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. Rhyzkahl had many layers added to him, as did Zack (oh man, Zack...) and Ryan (can he be who I think he is?). Eilahn is a great new addition as well. I liked her a lot, though I was
Best. Installment. Yet.I can honestly say, this series is more than freshing, and always on my top list. I really enjoyed both "Mark of the Demon" and "Blood of the Demon", but I have to say, I loved "Secrets of the Demon." If you haven't read the first to novels in this series, then I suggust you do before reading this novel. You'll get quite lost with the characters actions and backgrounds, not to mention to tension between some characters. Even if it was a stand alone novel, I'd recommend you
4.5 stars, I just love this series. My favorite thing is that Kara is both a real woman and very firmly the hero of these books. She's a regular woman, not a superhero, she's vulnerable, gets her feelings hurt, gets frightened, eats comfort food, has a temper, is just totally real. And she doesn't turn to anyone to solve her problems. So many fantasy books, especially those with hot demons, have the heroine "forced" into letting the demon solve everything for her, and then she gets to be
I've noticed a trend in myself. Urban Fantasies, in general, require a bit of time and investment in order to start really liking them. I suppose this might be very commonplace, but at least for me, it's like there's a period of adjustment before I really start loving the characters and situations. It's not a complaint. It's just an observation. Kara Gillian, detective and demon summoner, is starting to get under my skin. :)I liked this book more than the first two, but as I said, it's probably
