Relation To Books O Alienista

This comedy is written by one of Brazil's most famous writers. Because Portuguese is my second language, I understood about 75% of it (even with a dictionary by my side). Still, it was very funny and I imagine Brazilians would find it even funnier.Simao Bacamarte is a psychiatrist who opens a clinic to study the crazy people of the city of Itaguai. As time goes on the definition of craziness is expanded to include 3/4 of the town. Mayhem ensues. Then he concludes that the real crazies are notah, machado.he just never fails.this is just a short little work, part of melville house's wonderful "art of the novella" series, but it is machado, so you know it is going to be wholly satisfying, despite being only 86 pages.this one is about... madness. and how you don't want one person in charge of determining who is crazy and who is not. especially not this man:In his fortieth year Bacamarte married the widow of a circuit judge. Her name was Dona Evarista da Costa e Mascarenhas, and she was

The Psychiatrist is a funny satire on science and its influences in society. The book tells the story of obsession of a physician who desires to develop the perfect scientific method to cure mental disorders. The psychiatrist opens the first asylum of city named Casa Verde (Green House) and starts to bring in citizens he judges to have a mental disorder. His theories change along the story as he studies more and more, and so changes his criteria to decide who is mentally unbalanced or not.The
It is the first novel I read from this author. This book was published in 1881. It reminded me of another book I read this summer titled Ward No. 6 and Other Stories , which was also published in the 19th century and bears some similarities. This novel is of course a psychology story without using the complex and scientific terminilogy and/or narratives. Basically, any one can read and understand this novel if you don't like psychology. It is about an emminent Doctor who creates the first place
The Alienist is a well-known work of Machado de Assis which deals in a very different way, but I consider somewhat realistic the sanity.Well, the story revolves around a psychiatrist, Simon Blunderbuss, which returns to the city of Itaguai after graduating, and decides to open an institution that we would call today sanatorium. At the time, nursing homes for the mentally ill was something completely new, as it used to isolate people living with disorders to society. So, Simão begins to
