Representaion To Books A.D. 30 (A.D. #1)

A sweeping epic set in the harsh deserts of Arabia and ancient Palestine
A war that rages between kingdoms on the earth and in the heart.

The harrowing journey of the woman at the center of it all.

Step back in time to the year of our Lord...A.D. 30.

The outcast daughter of one of the most powerful Bedouin sheikhs in Arabia, Maviah is called on to protect the very people who rejected her. When their enemies launch a sudden attack with devastating consequences, Maviah escapes with the help of two of her father's warriors--Saba who speaks more with is sword than his voice and Judah, a Jew who comes from a tribe that can read the stars. Their journey will be fraught with terrible danger. If they can survive the vast forbidding sands of a desert that is deadly to most, they will reach a brutal world subjugated by kings and emperors. There Maviah must secure an unlikely alliance with King Herod of the Jews.

But Maviah's path leads her unexpectedly to another man. An enigmatic teacher who speaks of a way in this life which offers greater power than any kingdom. His name is Yeshua, and his words turn everything known on its head. Though following him may present even greater danger, his may be the only way for Maviah to save her people--and herself.

Criticism Epithetical Books A.D. 30 (A.D. #1)
This is not what I have come to expect with Ted Dekker. I have expected excellent writing and compelling characters, but I have never read anything like this. From the beginning I was drawn into the world of Maviah a slave and outcast whose own father, a Sheik who truly wants little to do with her. She is doubly cursed by being a woman and from the outcast group of the Bedu (a child out of wedlock no less). I felt an immediate sense of compassion for this woman who, through no fault of her own,

Pretty jolly good. A very different style to his usual fare; it's almost more Tosca than Ted in setting and style - very Sheba and a bit Iscariot. But the writing and the flair and the sheer emotional impact is all Ted. It took me about half the book to really get into it, and I suspect it's one of those books that will take a lot of going back and re-reading bits to let everything really sink. There's just so much in it. A couple of nitpicks, but they're only minor. Four and half stars.

I've read a number of Ted Dekker books and find that I prefer the ones that can be most accurately described as a historical novel. He hit a home run with A.D.30 and I'm looking forward to the sequel. This novel follows the journey of Maviah, from Bedouin slave to Bedouin queen. From the victim of violent men to a leader, from unloved to an example of love and forgiveness found through her experiences of Jesus. Dekker once again does a superb job of describing the ancient world, it's people,

One cannot truly know my son and remained unchanged.Whoa.This book makes you feel.Deeply.I know a big part of that is the subject matter, but the way Dekker is able to draw you in and completely captivate you definitely helps. You care about the characters, feel their pains and then encounter Jesus. So you bet I teared up in numerous places in this book.Im not shocked at my reaction either. I still vividly remember Mr. Dekker reading one of his stories at a youth workers convention years ago. I

This is my first Ted Dekker experience.Whoa.I really don't know what to say about this book. It's emotions. It's action. It's history. It draws you closer to God. It gives you permission to be vulnerable and human, and still know that you're okay.Anything else? No, that's pretty much it. I'm a better person for having read this book.

A.D. 30 is a fictional novel set during the beginning of Jesus ministry. Its the captivating story of Maviah, a young woman who is the illegitimate, outcast daughter of Rami bin Malik, a well-known and powerfulsheik to the Bedouin people of Arabia. She, along with her infant son, live with her father, who has despised and rejected Maviah her entire life, and with her fathers Nabataen wife, Nashquya, the only one in the house who accepts and loves Maviah. After a series of sorrowful, life-changing
