"Appollo Batmen" (by Victor Pelevin ) - I gave 5 stars. That is the origin of it. I liked the "Empire V". It was not that outstanding, but completing the story as a whole. Here it was fun to read about V-Empire, black-noise vs white-noise vs info-noise; distractions and (democratic) dictatures.Best Pelevin's book I read so far
Well, it's not my favorite Pelevin book. But may be it's because I am reading a couple of his books all in a raw. I like the concepts he brings up. But the way he presents them is not the best. The concepts and ideas are very densely packed together with no story going on. When you start reading Pelevin's books you immediately realize that it's like a text book in philosophy. Instead of writing plot and a story that will bring out some philosophical idea. He just makes his character talk and
One of the bests of my beloved author.
I'll be the first to admit that taking a break from a book is never a good sign, I have been putting this off for a few weeks but the dreaded week to go before the library breaks down my door, finally came into play. This book has a lot of mythology building which I liked and found it to be fascinating when it explored the vampire lore. The characters were the biggest problem I found and with all the interesting concepts e.g. the tongue, I found the pacing lacking when it should of been
Pelevin builds a myth here instead of destroying one, as he did in Omon Ra. Hard to believe it is the same author. The quality of prose and ideas is uneven, but the central premise remains fascinating till the end, though the imposition of human emotions on an essentially inhuman creature might feel incongruous at times.
The concept of our lives in modern society. I am almost worshiping it. It explains why we distinguish different Mercedeses from each other, what is glamor, what is discourse, what is god. I cane track the influence of Carlos Castaneda's works applied to reality of our every day life.I have read it in Russian.
