The Transall Saga
i read this way back in elementary school (I think this was published in 1999) after picking it out from a bookshelf in my classroom. flash forward more than a decade later: The book has long been forgotten. I am washing dishes past midnight when something flickers in my brain. A book cover with a beam of light. A kid who has to survive on another planet. Or was it earth all along? I think I remember him finding a coke bottle but maybe I'm confusing this with Planet of the Apes or something.

When I was given the assignment to read a survival book, I immediately thought of Gary Paulsen and his books because I already knew that I liked his writing style. I read "The Transall Saga" by Gary Paulsen. I knew that a lot of his books had to do with survival and this book was no exception. This book connects to the concept of survival because it was about a boy named Mark being forced to survive in a world different than he knew. Finding yourself alone in world that is strangely unfamiliar

This book was incredible. The story was new and original. It reached into all different genres of books. It isn't only a survival book, but also a drama, adventure, sci-fi. Each genre it was awesome in. It also makes you think about the future of Earth. What will become of it after the human race's mark. I kind of wonder why everything was a shade of red. I wonder why Paulsen didn't add some other old 'relics' because a lot of good things he could have put in to enrich the story even more.

I really didn't think I was going to like this book but I was outrageously surprised. The ending to this story was so beautiful. In the hope the end gives, it's also quite sad. I don't want to give anything away, but if you even remotely like science fiction you should read it. The sci-fi aspect is very watered down. It's more of a survival story with a dash of science fiction and a small portion of romance. The more I reflect on it, the more I just loved this story.
