Chronicle Concering Books The Forgotten Legion (Forgotten Legion Chronicles #1)

An epic Roman novel which follows three men and one woman bound in servitude to the Republic.

Romulus and Fabiola are twins, born into slavery after their mother is raped by a drunken nobleman. At thirteen-years-old, they are sold — Romulus to gladiator school, Fabiola into prostitution where she will catch the eye of one of the most powerful men in Rome.

Tarquinius is an Etruscan warrior and soothsayer, and an enemy of Rome, but doomed to fight for the Republic in the Forgotten Legion. Brennus is a Gaul; the Romans killed his entire family. He rises to become one of the most famous and feared gladiators of his day — and mentor to the boy slave, Romulus, who dreams night and day of escape and revenge.

The lives of the four are bound together into a marvellous story which begins in a Rome riven by corruption, violence and politics, and ends far away at the very border of the known world.

Criticism About Books The Forgotten Legion (Forgotten Legion Chronicles #1)
I really hated Fabiola and Romulass master. I like that Romulas forms a friendship with Brennus when he is sold to the school. I like how Brutus gets Fabiola and how in the end he frees her. I like how Tarquinius, Romulas, and Brennus meet on the battlefield and become fast friends. I like that Fabiola still remembers her twin when she is set free. I really enjoyed this book.

Ben Kane's novel 'The Lost Legion' is a gripping novel set in ancient Rome. Kane writes about the last days of the Roman Republic but with an unusual approach. He chooses his main characters from people on the margins of Roman society, those who inhabit the underbelly of the Republic and provide the essential services to keep the wealthy in a life of luxury. This means that the society they describe is almost as much of a mystery to them as it to the reader of two thousand years later.Kane opens

The story of the disastrous defeat of the Roman general Crassus, as viewed from the perspective of three unimportant people. The young Julius Caesar rapes a slave girl, who subsequently bears twins, a boy and girl. The girl grows to be a classy hooker, her brother a gladiator. The third principal character in the novel is a young Etruscan, who had been taught the wiles of ancient Etruscan divination. Due to various difficulties the gladiator and the Etruscan are forced to flee Rome, and join

If you enjoy historical adventures set during the time of the Roman Legions (Julius Caesar timeframe), you might enjoy The Forgotten Legion, the 1st book in Ben Kane's Forgotten Legion Chronicles. If you don't like violence in books, you might have to think about it.The story focuses on 4 people. Romulus and Fabiola are twins and slaves of land-owner Gemellus. He is awful (but that's not unique in this story), abusing the twins' mother regularly and just mistreating his slaves. Tarquinius is an

Reasons Why I DNF:1) The narrator, Michael Praed, needed some clamps on his sensitive areas and someone to flip the switch to give him a bit of energy. It was a dull reading, and his pace was slow, so it felt like things were never moving along. Yeah, yeah, I know. How could Robin of Sherwood & Prince Michael of Moldavia suck ass?!?! Well, there should be some kind of retribution for that stupid Dynasty wedding bomb cliffie.2) Actually things didn't move along. The story was choppy and very

At best, I have a layman's interest in Ancient Rome. But I came across this novel in the downtown bookstore a few weeks ago, thumbed through its contents, was intrigued, and bought it.This is the first novel in a trilogy. There are 4 principal characters who are at the heart of the story. Tarquinius is an Etruscan proud of his heritage, who has been schooled in the ancient arts of divination by Olenus, a wise and resourceful teacher and mentor. He lives with his parents as slaves on a large

Very interesting take on what happened to the survivors of Carhee.
